Where To Celebrate Juneteenth in Hunt Country
Written by Emerson Leger
Recognized annually on June 19, Juneteenth is a time for reflection and celebration. It commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. This year, communities across Hunt Country will mark the occasion with block parities, educational opportunities, and kid-friendly festivities.
Fauquier County Celebrations
Fauquier County will host a Juneteenth weekend with events on Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20.

Friday, June 19, is the sixth annual Juneteenth Block Party at Eva Walker Park in Warrenton. From 12 to 7 p.m., visitors can enjoy vendors, food trucks, history events, and live programming and entertainment.
On Saturday, June 20, head over to the Warrenton Aquatic Recreation Facility from 12 to 6 p.m. for a day of live music, dancing, and joyous celebration. Miriam Wallace, board member of Fauquier Juneteenth, describes the day as “music festival vibes.”
There are plenty of kid-friendly activities, too. Activities will include a petting zoo, historical scavenger hunt, crafting, children fun zone, hopscotch, a children explore station, and a garden wall mural.
Wallace said there will be nonprofits and other organizations on-site to help serve attendees’ health, meeting both mental and physical needs.
“It’s a time for joy and to celebrate freedom,” she says. “We’re basically looking to connect the community with the community’s needs so that they can become a little bit more free.”
These events are free to attend and open to all community members.

Leesburg’s Juneteenth March for Freedom
Head over to Leesburg to join in a march and festivities on Friday, June 19. The march will begin at 10 a.m at the Charles Hamilton Houston Courthouse at East Market and North King streets. It is cohosted by the Loudoun Freedom Center and the NAACP Loudoun Branch.
Michelle C. Thomas, president of NAACP Loudoun Branch, says the march will take around 20 to 30 minutes. Following the march, there will be a ceremony with a performance of the Black National Anthem and an acknowledgment of the elected officials present, such as Congressman Suhaf Subramanyam.
The rest of the day will be filled with reenactments demonstrating what the area was like during the Civil War, the Civil Rights Movement, and up to the present day. There will be a fun zone with activities for all ages like games, line dancing, food, vendors, and drummers and dancers. It will last until 1 p.m.
“This Juneteenth event is for everyone; when one of us is free, all of us are free,” Thomas says. “Freedom is something that we all benefit from so we should all celebrate.”
