Middleburg, Virginia – April 23, 2022

The Windy Hill Enchanted! Gala was a tremendous success. Taking place on April 23rd at Salamander Resort and Spa, just under 200 guests enjoyed an evening full of magic and enjoyment for a great cause. The Windy Hill Gala was hosted by Honorary Chair Judy Washburn and Gala Chair Bonnie Piper. The Gala Committee created an enchanted forest for guests to wander through while enjoying cocktails on the patio to the sound of a lively violin. The florals in the ballroom were exquisitely created by volunteer Kelly Johnson. A mentalist wandered the crowd, reading people’s minds to break the ice and engage guests in conversation. And after dinner, the DJ Zurn, accompanied by a team of musicians, set the dance floor on fire, with guests dancing the night away.

Gala Chair Bonnie Piper notes that, “The Gala is the largest fundraising event of the year for Windy Hill. This fundraiser supports our Resident Services programs which aim to improve the lives of families who live in Windy Hill affordable housing communities in Loudoun and Fauquier.

This year’s gala, thanks to our generous sponsors and guests, raised over $200,000 for Windy Hill programs. The live auction included items that were well-sought after including a private dinner at Tremolo (which sold twice!), a curated trip to Barcelona, and a private tour of Oak Spring.

The Elizabeth Locke earrings were a favorite as well. Over $100,000 was donated to Raise the Paddle. The Raise the Paddle initiative will support the “Mascatello Trail” at Washburn Place project, home to 30 families in Marshall. This project will build a recreational trail for the children and families of the Marshall community so they can safely play, walk, and recreate in a healthy environment. The project, named after the Mascatello family, longtime supporter to Windy Hill, will eventually include a community room for Windy Hill staff to conduct enriching programs right in the Washburn Place community.

The total project, including the community building, is estimated to be over $500,000. The Raise the Paddle was a great start in funding this project. We will continue to seek community support and grants to fund the remainder of the project.”
