Petco Love and Middleburg Humane Foundation Aim to Stop the Spread of Deadly Preventable Diseases and Reunite Lost Pets

MHF will offer free DAPP and FVRCP vaccines to pets in the community on January 31, February 21, and March 21.

MARSHALL, VA — The Middleburg Humane Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue organization, will provide free DAPP and FVRCP (or HCP) vaccinations for area pets. The no-cost vaccines are made possible through Petco Love’s national vaccination initiative, Vaccinated and Loved, which is providing an additional 1 million free pet vaccines for family pets in need to existing animal welfare partners, including MHF. The vaccination and microchip clinic will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, January 31; Saturday, February 21; and Saturday, March 21, at MHF (5000 Cunningham Farm Drive, Marshall, VA). In addition to the free DAPP and FVRCP vaccines from Petco Love, MHF will offer rabies shots for $15 and microchips for $20. “We encourage the community to come out and take advantage of this great offer thanks to Petco Love. Not only are we offering free and low-cost vaccines, but microchips as well. Given that it is estimated that approximately 10 million pets go missing each year across the U.S., microchipping is essential,” MHF Medical Director Matt Galati, DVM, explains. Petco Love also reunites pets with its free national lost-and-found pet database, Petco Love Lost, which uses photo-matching technology to simplify the search for lost pets.

Parvovirus and distemper in dogs and panleukopenia in cats — the most prevalent deadly diseases affecting pets — are preventable with a simple vaccine. The DAPP vaccine being administered for free protects against distemper, adenovirus (hepatitis), parvovirus, and parainfluenza. This is often one of the first vaccines that puppies receive. The FVRCP (also known as HCP) vaccine is a core vaccine for cats that protects against three highly contagious and potentially life-threatening diseases: feline viral rhinotracheitis (FVR), calicivirus (FCV), and panleukopenia (FPV). As a combination vaccine, it protects against all three with one injection.

An estimated 30% of pet parents do not take their pet to a veterinarian annually for preventative care. To ensure the health and wellness of our beloved pets and to address this critical need, MHF and Petco Love have partnered to make pet vaccines free or low-cost and accessible.

“Vaccinations are vital to protecting our beloved pets from life-threatening but preventable diseases,” says Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “Our goal is to make these critical vaccines accessible to as many pet parents as possible, breaking down financial barriers and strengthening the human-animal bond.”

To date, Petco Love’s Vaccinated and Loved initiative has reached its goal of distributing millions of free pet vaccines for family pets, and the organization is determined to reach even more pets in need by providing an additional 1 million free vaccines. The campaign was launched in August 2021, encouraging Petco Love animal welfare partners to host free clinics.
