For many, January represents a fresh start and a list of resolutions — and it’s also the perfect opportunity to think about your financial future and get organized. What that looks like can vary from person to person.

“It may be time to get estate documents in order to leave a legacy for your children. If you are approaching retirement, it can mean looking at what kind of income you can expect in retirement and where it is most prudent tax-wise to draw it,” says Lucy Zimmerman, a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) with Buttonwood Wealth, which recently opened an office on Washington Street in Middleburg.

Buttonwood Wealth is named after the Buttonwood Agreement, the founding document of what is now the New York Stock Exchange and one of the most important financial documents in U.S. history. Coincidentally, Zimmerman also happens to live on Buttonwood Farm in Middleburg — though there is no relation.

Zimmerman has worked in financial planning for 15 years. This January, she joined Buttonwood Wealth, which is based in Winchester. With clients in Middleburg, the firm decided to open a location in the heart of Hunt Country. On November 1, Buttonwood opened its doors just behind Middleburg Common Grounds.

At Buttonwood, the belief is that life is about a balance between living today and planning for tomorrow. The goal is to help clients understand where they are now and where they want to be. This enables them to maintain and achieve the things in life they value most. Buttonwood does this by combining Nobel Prize-winning research, cutting-edge technology, and a philosophy that prioritizes each client and helps them reach a new level of financial control and overall well-being.

To accomplish this, Zimmerman believes continuing education is essential in her field, and recently earned a new certification as a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst™ (CDFA®). “People come to us, especially in the new year, when something big in their life happens, so I did this to be better equipped to help those going through a divorce, which can be a serious financial undertaking,” she explains.

When setting resolutions for the new year, consider making financial wellness a priority. Lucy Zimmerman and the team at Buttonwood Wealth are ready to help create a comprehensive financial plan. Call (540) 662-5233 or visit bwlegacy.com to get started. ML
