Locally-Owned Boutique Crème de la Crème to Open Fourth Retail Store in Northern Virginia

Middleburg-based boutique retailer to bring French and Italian-inspired items to the heart of Old Town Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Crème de la Crème, a locally-owned boutique retailer carrying French and Italian-inspired tableware and home goods, announced today it will open its second Northern Virginia location in the heart of Old Town Alexandria in March 2024. The beloved retail brand signed a five-year lease with EastBanc for the 2,200-square-foot space located at 907 King Street.

Founded in 2000 by Tara and Ben Wegdam, Crème de la Crème now has four brick-and-mortar stores across the DMV area including the flagship location in Middleburg, VA; Richmond, VA; and Frederick, MD. Crème de la Crème prides itself in carrying higher-end tableware and home goods, inspired by French and Italian living.

“We have been looking for years at expanding our presence into Alexandria and finally found a place that will work for our format,” said Tara Wegdam, co-owner of Crème de la Crème. “We have so many customers from the D.C. and Alexandria area that have been asking us for a retail location closer by, so we are extremely excited to open our doors at 907 King Street next spring.”

Crème de la Crème is part of the locally-owned boutique retail family West Federal Retail which also operates retail formats LouLou’s, Zest, and Brick and Mortar. The new store in Alexandria will be West Federal Retail’s 24th opening.

“Old Town Alexandria is known for its dynamic charm and boutique shops, making it the perfect neighborhood for Créme de la Créme,” said Philippe Lanier, principal at EastBanc. “We have no doubt that their unique store experience and carefully-curated goods will attract locals and visitors alike looking for one-of-a-kind gifts and tableware.”

With a growing portfolio in Northern Virginia and the majority landowner of Georgetown, D.C.’s retail properties, EastBanc continues to be a catalyst for the region’s evolution as a high-demand, popular shopping destination, bringing a mix of local, national, and international brands to the DMV. The news comes at an exceptional time for EastBanc, following a steady cadence of new leases and restaurant and store openings including the return of Sur La Table to King Street. EastBanc is committed to Alexandria’s continued success as Northern Virginia’s leading shopping destination and looks forward to welcoming new brands that diversify the neighborhood’s retail offerings.
