Twilight Polo held its opening event of the summer on Saturday, May 28 in the Greenhill Stadium at Great Meadow. The theme of the evening was Military Appreciation Night, presented by Wiseman & Associates Wealth Management. Large crowds gathered to show their support for the nation’s armed forces and cheer on teams representing the Army, Navy, Marines, and Airforce.

During the first match at 6, team Army faced off against the Marines. It was a close match, but during the final chukker Army pulled away and emerged victorious with a final score of 11 to 8.

In the next match, team Air Force triumphed over team Navy after several action-packed chukkers. Following this match, John Gobin hosted his famous halftime tug’ o war and footrace for the kids in attendance.

The final match of the night between team Army and team Navy opened with a mounted presentation of the colors and a singing of the national anthem. It was hard-fought, but Army ended up bringing home the win with a score of 12 to 3.

Throughout the night, spectators enjoyed food and drinks from vendors including Red Dog BBQ, Auntie RaRa’s Ice Cream, and Greenhill Vineyards. The evening concluded with dancing and music by DJ Snow White in the Polo Pavilion. The beautiful weather, tailgating, and exciting polo coupled with the opportunity to celebrate both veterans and current armed services members made it a wonderful way to kick off Memorial Day weekend.
