NSLM Announces Players for 2019 Polo Classic

NSLM | August 7, 2019

The National Sporting Library & Museum (NSLM) is excited to announce players for its 2019 Polo Classic, to be held Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Great Meadow in The Plains, VA. This year’s event will again include two top tier matches, the Founders Cup and the Mars Cup; a parade of the Orange County Hounds; an honor guard; and the St. Andrews Society of Washington, DC Pipes and Drums.

The featured Mars Cup match will be Argentina vs. USA with teams representing the two countries. Players representing Argentina include Maria Ottonelo, Agustin Mauhum, and Tolito Ocampo. Returning players Bill Ballhaus, Bob Parr, John Gobin, as well as Scott Gray will make up team USA in this exciting match. “Once again we are delighted to have top tier players participate in our Polo Classic. Their expertise (and charm) bring an excitement on and off the field that makes the event fun and festive for everyone, old and young,” says Event Co-Chair Jacqueline B. Mars.

The earlier Founders Cup match will be a men vs. women challenge. Danielle Quinn, Cristina Parr, Terri Campbell, and Isabella Wolf will represent the women’s team. The men’s team fielded by the British Military – to include George Walker, Rupert Lewis, Oscar Churton, and Johnny Sleeman – will be captained by Major Mark Cann, Director of the British Forces Foundation and the Combined Services Polo Association.

Proceeds from the Polo Classic support the NSLM’s mission of preserving, promoting, and sharing the literature, art, and culture of equestrian, angling, and field sports. Funds raised from the event enable the NSLM to offer diverse public programs, host fine art exhibitions, and serve more than 10,000 individuals a year. “The Polo Classic is a wonderful way to experience the NSLM’s mission in motion firsthand while also supporting the diverse exhibitions and public programs we host throughout the year,” said Elizabeth von Hassell, NSLM’s Executive Director.

NSLM thanks the many sponsors who have committed support to this year’s event: American Executive Transport, Bill Ballhaus, Bouvet Ladubay, Mr. and Mrs. Donald G.
